The goal of the Desktop Publishing assignment was to create a poster about one of the 50 states using the program Comic Life 2. Comic Life 2 is intended to aid in creating comics and similar projects, however in this assignment, we were shown how to manipulate aspects from a program to create something new. The guidelines for the poster itself were as follows:

  • Create an acrostic poem about one of the 50 states

  • Each line must be an interesting fact or idea about that state

  • 3-6 images must be included

  • At least one of those images must be created in KidPix (a program used previously in this course)

  • Images found online must be cited in reflection

NETS-T Standard

The NETS-T Standard (National Educational Technology Standards-Teachers) that best represents this activity is Standard 2: Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments. This standard is met through the use of internet research skills to find relevant and reliable information and images to include in this project. Part A of Standard 2 is to "design or adapt relevant learning experiences that

incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity." By using the internet to research information and find images for their state, students are using a digital resource to learn and find visual aids to provide examples of what they have learned. In this assignment, Comic Life 2 is a digital tool that is incorporated to allow students to use their creativity in a visual way to show what they have learned about their state.
