Digital Storybook

This activity is inspired by the children's book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Eric Carle and Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. The general format and style of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? is used along with a cut-out of Cy, the Iowa State Mascot's face to create a digital book titled, Cyclone, Cyclone, What Do You See? At least 5 different objects, each a different color, are seen by Cy throughout the book. Cy's face is held up a distance from one of the objects with the question posed, "Cyclone, Cyclone, what do you see?" The following page shows the object with the statement, "I see a               in front of me." The digital book is made up of photos taken around campus with a digital camera. We were given a list of photo taking tips during lecture in order to take the best and most interesting photos possible. The book itself was put together using Microsoft PowerPoint.

NETS-T Standard

The NETS-T Standard this activity best meets is Standard 1, "Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity." Part A of Standard 1 is to "promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness." The modeling of creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness was shown through the use of PowerPoint as a book making tool rather than just a resource to create presentations about different material. Part B of Standard 1 is to "engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources." Students would be solving authentic problems by finding five different colored objects in their daily lives and using digital cameras and PowerPoint to document their findings.
