To Teach
In class, we read The Pink Refrigerator by Tim Egan. In the book, the main character Dodsworth, lived by the motto, "Try to do as little as possible." One day, he came across a pink refrigerator in a junkyard. On the fridge was a magnet with a note that read, "Paint pictures," and in the fridge were the supplies needed to do so. Dodsworth took the supplies home and painted. The next day he returned to the junkyard, and on the fridge was a new note, with the items needed inside the fridge just like the day before. This continued day after day. In this assignment, we used the program KidPix to create our own pink fridge with items that we would find inside if the note on the front was "to teach others." We had to draw at least three items in our fridge, and record our voice explaining the three items and why they would be in our fridge. After the audio and visuals were combined to create a video in KidPix, the video was uploaded to YouTube.

NETS-T Standard
This activity relates to NETS-T Standard 3, "Model Digital Age Work and Learning." Digital age learning was applied through using a program for schoolwork like KidPix, which includes the ability to draw on the computer, use animations, create audio recordings, and to upload work directly to the internet through YouTube. Students can use digital age technology, like they are adjusted to using outside the classroom, to create and complete assignments that will be more interactive and may be more interesting to students than other assignments options not including technology.
